Introduction

Here are reshacked builds of some miranda-im plugins. These should provide slightly more comfortable usability with screen-reading applications such as jaws for windows, wintalker. Others are not tested but are expected to work the same way.

Number of my suggestions and little patches has already been incorporated to the core miranda-im package. So if you are looking for an opportunity to use these blind-friendly mods grab the last nightly build from the development page.

This includes modifications to the folloving plugins:

Patched chat by Aleksey

November 2nd, 2009 09:17 AM
More than a year ago I have made chatrooms nick list accessible for scriver. Now Aleksey has shown to me completelly different way on how such support can be implemented. I've uploaded a chat plugin compiles with his patch. Since scriver developer has accepted my patches I've removed scriver builds from here. Some plugins may be outdated here, I am sorry. BTW due to this new technique Aleksey has demonstrated we may be able to do some more accessible tweaks in the near future.

Small patch for yamn

June 30th, 2008 09:45 AM
A smal patch has just been aplied to yamn which enables ability to use the enter key to popup a message while list of messages in the mail browser has the focus. Before this patch spacebar press has been implemented as a workaround. Now both the methods can be used either spacebar or the enter key press. This is available in Y_B's testing build. Once tweety updates official version it will be available there as well. Oh BTW there were no changes to scriver since I have posted the mod; so you may keep using my build with the 0.8.0 testing build 17.

Real accessibility fixes for scriver

June 28th, 2008 03:35 PM
Inability to navigate in the list of chatroom participants was the most disturbing accessibility issue within all the plugins featuring user interface for group chats. Now I have prepared a patch for scriver which: + Exposes list of users within a chat session to MSAA. For the ordinary user it can be tested with screen-readers which don't use display hooks E.G. NVDA. + Fixes some resource definitions in the options dialog so some of the controls are correctly labeled + Adds enhanced keyboard navigation within group chat sessions. Now it is possible to inwoke private conversation by simply pressing the enter key while a particular item has the focus. Also Ctrl+tab and Ctrl+shift+tab bindings are correctly handled while user list has the focus. The archive can be downloaded from this site. Patch is posted to the miranda-im forums. Perhaps this will get included officially one day.

Recently enhanced plugins

Except of the core miranda distribution plugins here are links to the plugins which have also been enhanced recently to be more confortable to use for visually disabled people.

Note: all the links in the following list open a new window if you have java script enabled in your browser.

At the miranda filelisting and in the forums there are loads of plugins so if you have a plugin which is not listed above nor its mod is published on this site such plugin is considered to be blind-friendly out of the box.

Help

If you are blind or visualy impaired and you have problems to get particular plugin to work as you expect it to then contact me maybe we shal be able to find out what needs to be adjusted.

Starting from Miranda-IM 0.5 there are two types of builds awailable. Please choose either Unicode - for windows 2000, windows XP, windows 2003 & windows vista or Ansi - for windows millenium down to Windows 95. You can easily distinguish ansi from unicode build by examining last letter of the filename excluding its extension.
Note: files which do not end in u.zip or a.zip can be installed to both versions; they aren't unicode aware yet or they are 2 in 1 distributions.

If you need more assistance please do ask in the official Miranda-IM forum or you can contact me directly via jabber at pvfromunat[at]gmail[dot]com.

If you can merge any patched plugin listed here with its original development branch it will be very appreciated; ask me for source diffs in this case please. Changes are minimal - in most cases the problem is in window styling.
